About us

The South West Teaching Public Health Network (SWTPHN) aims to harness existing resources to ensure the availability of a comprehensive programme of public health education. These opportunities will be available to a wide range of individuals and agencies working at all levels, including those in local authorities, the voluntary sector and other parts of the community to improve the public health in the South West.

The SWTPHN is a partnership between teaching Primary Care Trusts (t-PCTs), academic institutions and key public health bodies at regional and strategic health authority level. It is led by a steering group consisting of representatives from: Bath Spa University, Bournemouth University, Bournemouth and Poole PCT, Bristol PCT, Health Protection Agency South West, HERDA-SW, NHS South West, Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, Plymouth Teaching PCT, Government Office for the South West Regional Public Health Group,South West Public Health Observatory, University of Bath, University of Bristol, University of Exeter, University of Gloucestershire, University of Plymouth, University of the West of England, Bristol (Lead institution).

Key objectives of the Network

  • To harness existing skills and resources to optimise public health education and training opportunities in the South West Region.
  • To ensure access to a comprehensive programme of high quality public health education and training across the South West for those whose work contributes to the health of the public.
